This study selected the TaiAn rural community in Taiwan as the study site. TaiAn collaborated with local universities to implement the University Social Responsibility (USR) practice through community-based agritourism (CBA). The social exchange theory (SET) was adopted as a theoretical framework to weigh the costs and benefits perceived among different stakeholders (residents, tourists, students, and lecturers) regarding CBA development. The research purpose was to explore the determinants of support for sustainable CBA using a mixed quantitative and qualitative approach based on the SET. The empirical results from 117 completed surveys indicated that Agricultural Experiential Benefits, Perceived Environmental Impacts, and Mental Health Benefits positively influenced tourists' support for CBA. The qualitative interview results also supported the notion that agriculture students, faculty, and community members could derive various benefits from participating in USR practices within local communities. Theoretical and managerial implications were proposed for marketers and policymakers to gain a deep understanding of CBA practices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The discussion on agrotourism development has focused on the perspectives of several tourism stakeholders, however, limited research has explored the viewpoints of tour guides operating in this area. This research investigated tour guides' perspectives on agrotourism development in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam, to explore why agrotourism in this region remains an underexploited potential. We conducted interviews from October 2020 to July 2021 with 30 tour guides who have had opportunities and authentic experiences of tourism development based on their rich travel experiences in the region. This qualitative research showed that the Mekong Delta has a great potential for agrotourism development in Vietnam; however, many challenges prevent the same. Farmers face difficulties in creating attractive tourism products and activities, as they lack the capacity to broadly advertise. Agrotourism products are also similar in many tourist destinations in the region. Furthermore, regional coordination and partnership among stakeholders are lacking in agrotourism. A consistent tourism policy should be implemented among provinces to develop tourism more effectively. These findings inform rural development policymakers and expand the agrotourism literature by elucidating tour guides' perspectives, which have received scant attention. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Due to the nature of nitrogen cycling, policies designed to address water quality concerns have the potential to provide benefits beyond the targeted water quality improvements. For example, actions to protect water quality by reducing nitrate leaching from agriculture also reduce emissions of nitrous oxide, a potent greenhouse gas. These positive effects, which are incidental to the regulation's intended target, are termed "co‐benefits." To quantify the co‐benefits associated with reduced nitrate leaching, we integrate an economic model of farmer decision making with a model of terrestrial nitrogen cycling for the watershed surrounding Lake Mendota, Wisconsin, USA. Our modeling approach provides a framework that links air and water pollutants in an agri‐environmental system and offers a direction for future studies. Our model results highlight the finding that the co‐benefits from nitrous oxide abatement are substantial, and their inclusion increases the benefit–cost ratio of water quality policies. Consideration of these co‐benefits has the potential to reverse the conclusions of benefit–cost analysis in the assessment of current water quality policies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aims to formulate an agro-tourism management model, with a focal point on community participation in the establishment of sustainable tourism regions. This is achieved through the integration of diverse components, utilizing a grounded theory approach to explore and evolve the notion of sustainable agribusiness management. Data were garnered through on-site observations and semistructured interviews involving 17 participants, encompassing government officials, farmers, traders, and enterprise proprietors. The study findings elucidate the substantial community engagement in upholding the sustainability of agro-tourism through the creation of marketing innovations, stimulation of entrepreneurial endeavours, and establishment of networks. Integrated collaboration amongst pivotal stakeholders, including the government, universities, business entities, and farmers, serves as the catalyst for area development. We present a management model designed to maximise resources, thereby optimising the advancement of sustainable agro-tourism. The local government assumes a significant role in assisting the development of agro-tourism zones through the provision of training aid and infrastructure enhancement. This research has formulated a conceptual framework underpinning the expansion of sustainable agro-tourism. The study underscores how an interlinked ecosystem can facilitate a community-driven integrated strategy for agro-tourism management. While this inquiry focuses on a single case study, the findings underscore the necessity of an integrated network strategy encompassing all stakeholders to harmonise tourism advancement whilst preserving the sustainability and authenticity of the region. Marketers have the capacity to devise tactics for augmenting tourism by identifying the distinctiveness of particular locales, thereby enhancing the economic, societal, and cultural potentials of agro-tourism. For governmental entities, comprehending the latent potential of agrotourism while acknowledging the significance of community sustainability remains of paramount importance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The impact of the COVID-19 crisis on the tourism industry called attention to how crucial it is for tourism operations to be resilient, as their ability to overcome crises also impacts communities and adjacent industries. The communication theory of resilience argues that resilience is a dynamic capability that can be developed through communication processes. Exploring the role of communication processes in building resilience is important to establishing holistic strategies that strengthen the tourism industry. This work applies the communication theory of resilience to explore the employment of communication processes by agritourism operators during the COVID-19 pandemic. Seven agritourism operators in North Carolina, USA, were interviewed about resilience strategies at three points in time in 2020. These interviews revealed the value of communication processes in building resilience in agritourism operations and the facilitating role of communication technologies. These findings reveal that resilience is built collaboratively through social engagement and interaction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Sustainable development requires clean water. In Sweden, water supply has historically been good, but a changed climate may alter that situation. Islands such as Öland and Gotland, which already have a strained water situation due to their location and bedrock, can be useful case studies for understanding how industries adapt and overcome obstacles in changing behaviour to be more sustainable. Focus groups and a postal questionnaire were conducted to study the water shortage mitigations of the tourism and agriculture industries. The results indicated four salient steps for these industries: awareness/knowledge, responsibility, behaviour and mitigation measures. While awareness was high among all respondents, the level of knowledge varied. Both the tourism and agriculture industries acknowledged their own responsibility but primarily placed the responsibility on each other and on other actors. All respondents had ideas about what behaviours needed to be changed in others, but not as much about their own behaviours, which is a natural consequence of the transfer of responsibility. Finally, there were many ideas for mitigation measures with the agricultural industry focusing on traditional approaches such as irrigation ponds and collecting rainwater, and the tourism industry having more innovative ideas such as re-circulating water and behaviour changes but had not progressed as far in their implementation. This study has shown that industries have different prerequisites and that providing them with tools to help them use preventive measures could speed up the transition to a more sustainable future. RURAL tourism , *TOURISM impact , *DOMESTIC tourism , *TOURISM , *AGRITOURISM , *INPUT-output analysis - Abstract
The authors consistently substantiate the impact of the tourism industry on related industries. It may be assessed through the multiplier effect. The paper elaborates on international and national approaches to assessing the multiplier effect. All the methodologies for its calculating are similar in that it consists of direct, indirect and induced contributions of tourism to the economy. The authors consider collecting data and assessing the indirect contribution the most challenging task. Options for its assessing are then discussed in detail. By analyzing these practices at the international and national levels, the problem of calculation is identified. The bottleneck is the collection of tourism statistics. Statistics are classified only by OKVED (Russian Classification of Economic Activities) codes and economic institutions. There is also no regional input-output table, which makes it difficult to calculate the multiplier. The multiplier effect analysis results in addressing the question of one of the priority areas of domestic tourism, that is the development of rural tourism, arises. The paper presents the criteria for selecting rural tourism projects, drawing conclusions on the relevance and importance of collecting data for calculating indirect effects at the start of the implementation of priority agrotourism projects. One of the techniques in vegetable cultivation is the use of plastic mulch. The practice of using plastic mulch is thought to impact soil fauna, one of which is Collembola. This study aimed to determine the composition and abundance of the Collembola family in vegetable fields with and without plastic mulch. The research method used is a survey with a purposive sampling technique using pitfall traps installed at five sampling points along a 20-meter line transect on each land. Sampling was carried out every month for four months, from the beginning of the planting period until after harvest. The parameters observed were the composition of Collembola at the family level and its abundance. Other parameters measured include the physical and chemical properties of the soil. The data obtained were analysed by t-test at 10 and 20% error rates. The results showed that the composition of the soil surface Collembola on mulched land was found to be 6 families, while on land without mulch, there were 7 families. The highest abundance of Collembola on land without mulching for 4 months was 6214 individuals, while 858 individuals were obtained on mulched land. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

agritourism ,pandemic ,small farms - Abstract
During COVID-19, California small farmers and ranchers suffered significant disruptions and shifts in the marketplace, marked by a loss in wholesale outlets and an increase in demand for direct-to-consumer sales. This study examines how agritourism operators responded to the challenges and opportunities created by the pandemic. In 2021 and 2022, in the midst of the pandemic, the UC ANR Agritourism Program held a series of trainings for California farmers interested in starting or expanding agritourism enterprises. Some of the key themes that emerged from the trainings were that farmers had to shift their operations to ensure social distancing and reduced crowd sizes, while at the same time, they experienced an unprecedented demand for direct-to-consumer sales and on-farm visits. Agritourism, in varying degrees, contributed to the resiliency of most of the participants in our study. Moving forward, it would be worthwhile for researchers, agricultural professionals, and decision-makers to examine equity in agritourism and agritourism’s role as a risk-management strategy to help mitigate other types of disruptions in the future. Our findings also point to the need to provide farmers with technical assistance around e-commerce and sustainable business planning.

This study used a three-phase mixed-method approach to determine geographical capacity requirements and influential factors to develop consistent agritourism development scenarios in Iran's rural communities. The Kandovan district was chosen as a case study to highlight rural communities' agricultural potential. To identify agricultural potential zones in the first phase, GIS analysis has been used to determine that the area under study possesses favorable conditions for agricultural activities in terms of data layers such as roads, soil, freshwater source, average annual temperature, altitude, and land slope. The second phase's findings, based on a quantitative explanatory factor analysis, indicated that eight factors contribute to the development of agritourism, including capacity assessment, monitoring, land-use analysis, organizational learning, infrastructure, resident awareness, policymaking and integrated policy and vision recognition. In the final phase, the study developed three consistent scenarios for agritourism development in Kandovan by analyzing 32 possible states of key factors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Simple Summary: The recent health crisis has created a new scenario where rural tourism stands out as a beneficiary of the post-COVID era. The results of this research, based on the conducted surveys, show that agrotourism is an attractive and interesting activity for tourists, offering a diversified experience with livestock-related and pastoral activities in Andalusia (Spain). Agrotourism, a form of rural tourism, has the potential to align with emerging tourist interests, while reactivating the economy of livestock farming families and recognizing the important environmental, social, and economic role of extensive livestock farming. However, based on the findings of this study, specific areas of focus include (i) developing marketing strategies that encourage tourist participation throughout the year; (ii) integrating theoretical and practical content into educational training pro-grams to raise awareness of agrotourism projects and foster interest among future professionals in both the tourism and livestock sectors; and (iii) providing training and support for livestock farmers interested in diversifying their activities through agrotourism (considering such aspects as investment, time commitment, dedication, tourist engagement, forming alliances with companies, etc.). This support could be facilitated by public administrations, fostering synergies between the public and private sectors. This study aimed to analyze the interest, willingness to pay, and profile of tourists participating in specific agrotourism activities linked to extensive livestock farming in order to encourage the development of those activities that are most demanded by tourists, as well as to support the proposals for improvements to promote this kind of tourism in the region of Andalusia (Spain). For this purpose, a survey was conducted, which was organized into six sections: (i) sociodemographic data, (ii) general aspects of tourism, (iii) rural tourism, (iv) livestock farming and tourism, (v) benefits of extensive livestock farming, and (vi) tourism activities linked to livestock farming. A total of 892 responses were received, out of which 753 were analyzed. The results show that the respondents are interested or motivated by the proposed activities. The most attractive activities are those related to livestock farming, which involve some kind of workshop on the production of handicrafts. Despite tourists having low-to-medium knowledge of extensive livestock farming, they all express a highly positive perception of the associated attributes. Developing strategies to enhance the willingness to pay for agrotourism activities is crucial, with the overall experience being a key element of their success. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Small and medium farmers across the USA face multifarious challenges for survival. Agritourism has been an alternative to diversify their income streams. Researchers have examined various factors determining the profitability of agritourism operations that range from the operators' socio-demographic and firmographic to geographic characteristics. However, the understanding of the extent to which the number of visitors and other factors influence the profitability of agritourism operators in Maryland, USA, is limited. This paper examines various factors associated with (a) the profitability of and (b) the number of visitors to agritourism operations. Using data collected from Maryland in 2022, the multivariate results reveal that the number of visitors to the farm increases the odds of profitability. However, the relationship was mediated by the number of employees, which influenced the number of attractions and visitors. Moreover, the number of employees independently and significantly affected the profitability. Further results reveal that the length of operation, the number of employees, and operating during the fall season significantly influence the number of visitors. These findings imply that policies should consider ways to facilitate labor hiring as well as other factors to attract farm visitors and increase farm profitability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Seasonal variations in the tourism industry consist of alternating patterns of overuse and underuse of touristic potential and resources, which correspond to overexertion in the peak periods and to reduced income levels in the trough periods. We analyze both trend and seasonal components for agritouristic boarding houses, conventional boarding houses, hotels, and overall arrivals in 41 Romanian counties by using the Season-Trend decomposition using the LOESS method previously used in forecasting. Our findings suggest that there is a moderate positive relation between trend and seasonality in agritouristic boarding houses, a situation that is not shared with other types of accommodation units studied. While at a country-wide level the seasonal character of agritourism is not significantly different from other types of accommodations studied, in some counties located in south-east Romania, the seasonality exhibited by agritourism is significantly lower. Agritourism seasonal patterns exhibit spatial correlation features, indicating that underlying natural and anthropic causes exert more influence than in the case of other types of accommodations. These findings may be used to shape public policy and entrepreneur behavior in agritourism and rural tourism, domains where farm income diversification is instrumental to surviving events such as crop failures, price changes, and consumer behavior. AGRITOURISM , *FARMERS - Abstract
Developing strategic land use issues into agrotourism is increasingly prevalent in Batu City. This condition raises various kinds of farmers' perceptions about who feels the benefits of the presence of tourism. Various backgrounds make these differences in perception even more visible. This study aims to analyze the influence of farmers' characteristics on their perceptions of developing "Bon Deso" agrotourism in Tulungrejo Village, Batu City. The location of the study was determined deliberately with consideration for agrotourism activities. "Bon Deso" is located in the village. This study used quantitative survey methods with data collection techniques through interviews, observations, and instruments. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and simple linear regression. The population was 646, with a sample of 87 farmers obtained by calculating the Slovin formula. A simple random technique determined the sample. The results of this study show that characteristic variables simultaneously affect perception. The characteristic sub-variables that affect perception are age, length of formal education, farming experience, and land area. Characteristic sub-variables that do not influence perception are non-formal education and primary income. This finding could be used as a reference for agrotourism managers in determining programs that suit farmers. It is hoped that the presence of a program will get support and participation from farmers to maximize the development of "Bon Deso" Agrotourism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Rice terraces are a time-honored agricultural feature that overcomes rough terrain and hostile growing conditions. In addition to playing an essential role in agricultural production and land conservation, rice terraces have been recognized as living cultural landscapes, important agricultural heritage, and popular agritourism destinations for their aesthetic, sociocultural, and environmental values. However, there is a lack of understanding of this emerging niche market, especially from outsider perspectives. To fill the gap, this study analyzes Google Maps reviews of seventy representative rice terraces in Japan based on a mixed-method content analysis, aiming to identify visitors' overall experiences, seasonal perceptions, and the causes of negative experiences. The results indicate that the overall experience of rice terraces in Japan includes seven themes: agricultural landscapes, times and seasons, visual perception, accessibility and infrastructure, sense of place, Genfukei of Japan, and food. Visitors' perceptions toward the four seasons of the rice terraces have distinctive characteristics and result in different satisfaction levels. The main reasons for negative experiences are farmland abandonment, lack of character, poor accessibility, and bad timing. Leveraging the power of netnography, the study sheds light on the sustainable development of agricultural heritage tourism through the introduction of rice terrace conservation initiatives in Japan and the exploration of rice terrace experience. Under the robust impetus of China's rural revitalization strategy, agro-tourism integration and tourism-driven poverty reduction have profoundly impacted various aspects of China's economy, society, and ecology. This has propelled coordinated urban–rural development and the sustainable development of the tourism industry. This study introduces an analytical framework encompassing tourism-driven poverty reduction, agro-tourism integration, and rural revitalization. Through PVAR and threshold models, it empirically examines the interactive effects, dynamic relationships, and threshold effects between agro-tourism integration, tourism-driven poverty reduction, and rural revitalization. The conclusions are as follows: Firstly, the indices of rural revitalization and the level of agro-tourism integration show an increasing trend across Chinese provinces, with varying trends in tourism-driven poverty reduction efficiency. Secondly, there is a significant dynamic relationship among these factors, with the explanatory power of tourism-driven poverty reduction and agro-tourism integration gradually strengthening. Agro-tourism integration is identified as the most effective means of driving rural revitalization, while tourism-driven poverty reduction has a relatively weaker direct impact. Thirdly, tourism-driven poverty reduction exhibits a positive impulse response to agro-tourism integration. The improvement in tourism-driven poverty reduction efficiency propels further development in agro-tourism integration, thereby fostering rural revitalization. The efficiency of tourism-driven poverty reduction presents a single threshold effect in the process of agro-tourism integration promoting rural revitalization. Fourthly, the development of China's tourism industry has become an indispensable means of promoting rural revitalization and poverty reduction. However, rural revitalization is a comprehensive project influenced by various factors, requiring improvements and development across multiple aspects. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The integral development of agriculture and tourism heavily depends on natural resources, especially agricultural resources, and it also may contribute to the sustainability of agriculture. The sustainability of agriculture is usually measured by the agricultural eco-efficiency. The main objective of this paper is to demonstrate the impact of the agriculture and tourism integration on agricultural eco-efficiency, so as to reflect the role of the agriculture and tourism integration on promoting agricultural sustainability. Applying panel data of 19 provinces in Yangtze River Basin and Yellow River Basin in China from 2008 to 2019, this paper uses a PSTR model to demonstrate the impact of agriculture and tourism integration on agricultural eco-efficiency and its mechanisms. It is found that in the study area, the integration of agriculture and tourism can contribute to improvements in agricultural eco-efficiency, and when levels of integration are high, the promotional effect is enhanced. However, impacts vary among different regions to some extent. In terms of influencing mechanisms, inputs of agricultural labor, sown crop area, effective irrigation area and other factors decrease with continuous improvements of integration. The input of pesticides, fertilizers and other factors does not decrease in the initial stage of integration but undergoes a rapid decrease after crossing a threshold value. And it demonstrates that the integration of agriculture and tourism is beneficial for improving the agricultural eco-efficiency, so that it will contribute to agricultural sustainability. Meanwhile, this paper offers a new research perspective for discovering effects of agriculture and tourism integration, providing implications for formulating regional policies for the integration. This study adopted the reasonable person model (RPM) in the context of agritourism to identify tourists' preferences for features of agricultural landscapes; to examine the effects of agritourism landscape's fascination on subjective well‐being and destination attachment, which in turn influence tourists' loyal behaviors; and to investigate the moderating effects of farm types. The quantitative and qualitative approaches were combined to obtain 1118 usable samples. The results validated the RPM by identifying the predictive power of landscape fascination, subjective well‐being, and destination attachment on tourists' destination loyalty. Managerial implications for enhancing visitors' retentions in Taiwan were discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The tourism presence affects the livability of the tourist destination area. It boosts development while simultaneously creating issues, namely rising housing prices, inequality, and displacement, which resembles the sign of gentrification. This study analyses how tourism and gentrification affect livability. This study chooses Cihideung Agritourism Village as a case study. It employs two parts of analysis. The first analysis is to pinpoint the tourism gentrification characteristics within the study area through indicators. The second analysis assesses the livability through a set of livability indicators. From the result of both analyses, it is discovered that Cihideung Agritourism Village is still in the early stage of gentrification, which is indicated by the transformation of land use and the influx of wealthier populations to the area. Based on livability assessment, gentrification is advantageous for the economic and spatial developments of the area, but less for environmental and social aspects. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Agrotourism in Vietnam has been identified as one of the strategies used to achieve green growth and countryside modernisation, and it is often included as part of the national and local agenda. In this paper, we examine agrotourism in a village in the periphery of Hội An city (an international tourism hub in central Vietnam) to question tourism's interaction with ongoing development processes. More specifically, we aim to understand the impact of fast peri‐urbanisation on agrotourism and the impacts of agrotourism on people's daily lives, specifically when it comes to physical changes in their living environment, tensions in their social life and their concerns about the future. Our analysis is supported with data generated from interviews with farmers, local officials, tourism workers and tourists. We find that agrotourism products lacked authenticity and farming was not of great interest for tourists, yet the state's investment in the village tended to favour spaces and infrastructure that could attract more tourists and generate profit, to the detriment of cultural infrastructure. Land speculation and an unequal distribution of income were the main tensions in the village along with farmers' concerns about their rural heritage, income diversification and environmental quality. As such, agrotourism in the village has been driven by rapid urbanisation and mass tourism, creating a competition between a consumption activity and a productive activity. Those are important parameters that future policymakers need to take into consideration in order to sustain the city's food production and tourism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

With a deductive method and an interpretivist philosophy, this study evaluates how agro-tourism affects community-based agricultural management as well as rural development. This study investigates the economic, social, and environmental aspects of agrotourism integration using a descriptive design in addition to secondary data collection. The results show promising economic outcomes, such as job creation and earnings diversification, but they also draw attention to issues with regulatory compliance and the potential for cultural commodification. Examining the sustainability of farming methods, agrotourism's contribution to the promotion of environmentally friendly farming practices alongside resource management is highlighted. Infrastructure constraints become an obstacle that will require further research into creative fixes. Simplified rules, improved infrastructure, community empowerment, environmental preservation, and cultural sensitivity education are all included in the recommendations. Future investigations ought to center on enduring ecological sustainability, inventive approaches to infrastructure predicaments, and a more profound examination of social dynamics, as well as cross-context comparisons. Destinations seek to increase their competitiveness by offering memorable experiences that can stimulate repeat visitation and positive word of mouth. Travel experiences centered on agrifood systems (i.e., agrifood tourism) encompass a set of attributes (e.g., authenticity and interaction with locals) that tend to be memorable. However, the extent to which these attributes contribute to memorability warrants further investigation. Thus, this study identified common and distinct elements of memorability across agritourism, culinary tourism, and craft-beverage tourism compared to beach tourism (control group). We surveyed a panel (n = 1019) in 2023 using a hypothetical travel scenario with four experience options. A multivariate analysis of variance showed high levels of memorability across various attributes of the agrifood experiences (e.g., learning opportunities and hands-on participation), with few differences across them, as compared to beach tourism. This study advances the scholarly construct of agrifood tourism by incorporating memorability within its complex dynamics. The study results also provide insights that marketers and managers of destinations with a mix of agrifood experiences can use to improve destination competitiveness and memorability (e.g., increasing educational offerings and adding more participative activities). The COVID-19 pandemic has affected water consumption due to the Italian government's stay-at-home orders to reduce virus spread. Thanks to a complete dataset (hourly water demand for 2019, 2020, and 2021) related to five Apulian towns, there were observed different trends in water consumption during the pandemic period compared with the pre-pandemic one, having previously excluded other possible influencing factors. There is a marked reduction in areas characterised by a high number of collective activities, less evident where the economy is mainly based on agriculture or summer tourism, highlighting that the water consumption by collective activities is significant. Before the COVID-19 crisis, Thailand’s tourism industry, which is critical to the economy, relied on global tourists. The Thai government initiated a policy reform to stimulate domestic focus on the agricultural sector as the key occupation for income distribution, which involved changing tourist behavior from urban to local tourism. This study integrates quantitative and qualitative multiphase approaches to obtain reliable research results from six regions of Thailand. The travel behaviors of Thai tourists engaged in agritourism did not show a statistically significant difference. The paradigm was intercorrelated with variables of the entry mode, comprising internal and external factors that influence the decision to enter the agritourism business. An agritourism entrepreneur must perceive risks and benefits, and adjust and return to the homecoming of offspring. Thailand’s agritourism can contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), resulting in economic growth based on sustainable domestic dependency.

Large‐scale agricultural and tourism development are the main threats to biodiversity in south‐eastern Spain. Species with low dispersal abilities, such as some endemic insects from this region, are particularly vulnerable to fragmentation and loss of genetic and morphological diversity. Here, we studied the current and future threat of climate and land‐use change on the intraspecific diversity of one such group of endemics, the giant blister beetles of the Berberomeloe insignis species group.Using a phylogeographic approach and morphometrics, we identified intraspecific variation within the B. insignis species group. These data were coupled with ecological niche modelling (ENM) to determine the effect of agricultural and climate change on the connectivity across phylogroups. We identified a marked geographic structure within B. insignis, with the time to the most recent common ancestor (TMRCA) of the two main mtDNA clades dating back to 2.1 Ma. Cyto‐nuclear discordances found across parapatric populations suggest past events of genetic introgression. B. insignis presents a head pattern that is geographically structured and mostly congruent with the four mitochondrial lineages. In contrast, diversification within Berberomeloe tenebrosus is more recent, dating back to less than 1 Ma. Future ENMs highlight the role of mountains as potential refugia under a climate warming scenario but predict extinctions in the lowlands.Based on our analyses, two lineages of B. insignis are threatened and should be urgently considered as independent conservation units, and their current geographic distribution areas protected to conserve, at the very least, a portion of the species' evolutionary heritage. The serious socioeconomic problems faced by rural environments in general, and the agricultural sector in particular, in peripheral European territories since the end of the last century have led to depopulation phenomena, the abandonment of unique traditional uses, and the loss of cultural identity. The promotion of a well-understood agrotourism sector in these territories, as an income-diversifying activity that promotes a more sustainable tourism, is a measure widely applauded by the scientific community, which seeks to curb such problems and offer an opportunity to the inhabitants who are less and less dedicated to the much maltreated primary sector. However, it is crucial to know in a personalized way the value chain associated with agrotourism and in particular that linked to the Extremadura dehesa, especially when this has not traditionally been considered a tourist resource. This paper presents a recent bibliographical review regarding the potential of the Extremadura dehesa as a viable agrotourism resource. The lack of knowledge that the tourist offer has about agrotourism and the dehesa as a business niche and diversification of income, or the gap between some activities and the appropriate channels of the value chain, are some remarkable conclusions, coinciding with those of other authors and similar territories. The high rate of population growth has caused many problems, one of which is the increase in slum areas which has resulted in a decline in environmental quality, residents' health, and the level of welfare of local residents. So a mature strategy is needed from and involving the community to overcome these problems, both through the development and promotion of agricultural and tourism products. This research aims to identify the potential of slum areas to become tourist villages, one of which is in Bantarsari Bungursari Village, Tasikmalaya City, and reveal the strategies and potential of rural areas in supporting slum areas to become tourist attractions. Data collection used a qualitative descriptive method by asking the community directly about the strategies used to transform slum areas into tourist areas. The research results show that the potential of the tourist village area is natural physical potential in the form of geographical factors that support rural tourism, namely agrotourism and house-building characteristics as well as socio-cultural potential in the form of friendly habits of local residents and good service to tourists. It can be concluded that slum area management can be carried out through the natural physical and socio-cultural potential of the community. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Faced with the current challenges of the climate emergency and global change, the revaluation of local products, their knowledge, consumption, and distribution is emerging as one of the strategic actions aimed at reducing the carbon footprint. Agritourism, as an activity that values everything that is related to the agricultural heritage and that enables direct contact between visitor and farmer, contributes to positioning and strengthening the local agrifood product in tourist destination areas and becomes another link in the production chains, promoting direct sales and the short distribution circuit of the products. This research aims to measure the presence of the local agrifood product in the context of agritourism developed in the Western Catalan Pyrenees (Spain). To do this, it analyses the presence of the local product and the ways used to incorporate it into the travel experience. It explores (through interviews) the opinions of the owners of agritourism farms/businesses in relation to the repercussions of the producer–consumer connection through food. To reach this goal, secondary sources are reviewed—bibliographical, statistics, and web pages—and a total of 26 interviews are carried out. In terms of the results, we highlight that in the Western Catalan Pyrenees, about 70% of agritourism accommodations include local products in their offer. Additionally, the professional project is strengthened by including the agrifood product in the offer's structure through catering and/or direct sale, generating positive dynamics among the rest of the producers in the area. However, only a small percentage of agritourism accommodations fully diversify their project with the production, consumption, and distribution of their own and local food. A total of four different profiles of agritourism are identified regarding agrifood products. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A logotype can have a considerable impact on the customers' perception of a given business, generate experiences and become a basis for assigning specific associations to the brand (positive, negative, promotional). The aim of the present study is to verify the function of logotypes of selected agritourism establishments, especially in view of the rationale for placing them on home pages of websites, and the marketing function they fulfill. Homepages (the main web pages) of websites of 10 agritourism farms with the dimensions of 1,245 × 570 pixels (and 24 -bit color depth) were analyzed. The study involved 170 respondents (n = 170), whose task was to indicate a single element they perceive as positive, negative, and one that in their opinion best serves the promotional goal in each of the 10 homepages. Statistical analyses were performed using the R-CRAN software version 4.0.2. The study confirmed that there are both differences and similarities in the responses regarding logotypes of the agritourism farms studied. The perception of the logotype depends strongly on the education level and age of respondents. The analyses also confirmed that there is no linear relationship between the size of the logo and the frequency at which it is indicated as a promotional element. The use of a detailed factor analysis of logotypes (with the use of the click-tracking technique) on the websites of agritourism farms is an innovative approach and allows for a relatively comprehensive assessment of the perception of logotypes by potential consumers of offers available on the market. Plain Language Summary: An Analysis of Logotypes of Agritourism Farms on Websites The aim of the present study is to verify the function of logotypes of selected agritourism establishments, especially in view of the rationale for placing them on home pages of websites, and the marketing function they fulfill. Homepages (the main web pages) of websites of 10 agritourism farms with the dimensions of 1,245 × 570 pixels (and 24 -bit color depth) were analyzed. The study involved 170 respondents (n = 170). Analyses presented in this article focused on the way consumers perceive logotypes of agritourism farms online. However, they pertained solely to Polish farms and Polish respondents. Limitation of this study is the fact that potential customers may react differently to logotypes that incorporate abstract word and/or graphic constructions. This is a rare practice in the case of agritourism farms operating in the Polish market, yet it cannot be excluded. Our study is limited to 10 agritourism farms. Future studies should include a larger sample, which would allow for drawing more precise conclusions. These, in turn, could provide a solid foundation for the practical use of the results by farmers who run agritourism businesses. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The goal of the study was to assess the agro-tourism knowledge of extension officers in Abakaliki, south-eastern Nigeria. Quantitative method was applied, whereby a structured questionnaire was used to obtain relevant information. Results show that extension officers have high-level knowledge of agro-tourism, acquired mostly through 'on-the-job trainings', workshops and conferences; but not from the classroom. However, the high-level agro-tourism knowledge has not translated into significant participation of local farmers in agro-tourism, as very few extension officers have engaged in educating farmers on the potentials of agro-tourism. The implication is that farmers have not got much support from extension officers, thus, they are yet to benefit significantly from agro-tourism. The paper raises the need for extension officers to be properly informed on agro-tourism as a factor for farmers' participation in agro-tourism. Equally, the paper exposed deficiency in agricultural extension curriculum of Nigerian tertiary institutions, for the fact that extension officers did not acquire agro-tourism knowledge from the classroom. Thus, an upgrade of curriculum to address this deficiency is highly recommended. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

AGRITOURISM ,DATA envelopment analysis - Abstract
The efficiency of agro-tourism integration has become an important research object in evaluating agricultural efficiency. However, traditional efficiency evaluation theories and methods assume that all decision-making units are independent of each other and cannot effectively deal with the complex relationship between agriculture and tourism development. Based on the cooperative relationship between agriculture and tourism, this study constructed a data envelopment analysis (DEA) model based on cross-efficiency. It used ten input variables and six output variables from the agricultural and tourism systems to analyze the efficiency of agro-tourism integration in 31 provinces in mainland China from 2010 to 2019. The research results show that the efficiency of agro-tourism integration in China is relatively high and tourism significantly promotes agriculture. Still, the promotion efficiency of agriculture on tourism is low and the integration efficiency of agriculture and tourism in different provinces is significantly different with spatially differentiated features. From the perspective of dynamic trends, hot and sub-hot spots continue to gather in the developed eastern provinces, while cold spots and sub-cold spots mainly gather in the northwest region. Finally, eight indicators were selected to analyze the reasons for forming the spatial differentiation characteristics of China's efficiency of agro-tourism integration. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Changxing Tuying wetland, a gem in the Huzhou wetland cultural heritage system, boasts a rich history and ecological diversity. This paper delves into the essence of the Changxing Tuying wetland culture, tracing its origins and the evolution of its distinct cultural resources. By integrating principles of botany and ecology with visual aesthetics, we explore an innovative approach that merges digital technology with cultural tourism to both showcase and protect this unique ecological site. The focus of our study is twofold: to highlight the potential of digital means in enhancing agricultural tourism and to underscore the importance of environmental conservation in maintaining the wetland's ecological balance. We adopt a strategy that not only emphasizes the cultural heritage of the Changxing Tuying Wetland but also advocates for its ecological protection through sustainable tourism practices. Empirical results from our analysis on the impact of digitalization on both heritage and tourism provide compelling evidence of its benefits. The interaction term between digitalization and cultural identity yields a coefficient of 0.242 (p-value = 0.025<0.05), indicating a significant positive impact. Similarly, the interaction between digitalization and cultural heritage presents a coefficient of 0.201 (p-value = 0.013<0.05), also signifying a positive effect. These findings suggest that digitalization not only enhances the appeal of the wetland as a tourist destination but also plays a crucial role in promoting its ecological conservation and highquality development. This study offers valuable insights into the synergistic relationship between digital technology, cultural heritage preservation, and environmental conservation. It demonstrates that digitalization can be a powerful tool in promoting sustainable agricultural tourism, thereby contributing to the broader objectives of environmental stewardship and cultural heritage conservation. The successful case of Changxing Tuying wetland sets a precedent for other Chinese wetlands, providing a model for cultural conservation and inheritance in the digital age. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Currently, the integrated development of agriculture and tourism is one of the most critical strategic measures in China. The rapid growth of agricultural tourism integration presents the typical characteristics of expanding regional differences. Exploring the impact of agricultural tourism integration on the growth of green total factor productivity in agriculture has important theoretical and practical significance. This study constructs a comprehensive index system for agricultural tourism integration, measuring the development level of agricultural tourism integration in 30 sample provinces from 2008 to 2018. Using the generalized system method of moments approach and Tobit model, the impact of agricultural tourism integration on agriculture was empirically tested, and the regulatory role of rural human capital was discussed. It was found that agricultural tourism integration contributes significantly to the improvement in green total factor productivity in agriculture, with rural mobility human capital, education human capital, and health human capital all playing a significant positive moderating role in this process. Finally, it is recommended that priority be given to agricultural tourism integration in the policy framework, promoting industrial chain upgrading, raising investment in rural infrastructure, and upgrading rural human capital levels to contribute the rural economic development. SUNFLOWER seeds ,SUNFLOWERS ,SUNFLOWER seed oil ,UNSATURATED fatty acids ,COMMON sunflower ,AGRITOURISM ,LINOLENIC acids - Abstract
The present review article is intended to provide comprehensive insights into the techniques of sunflower cultivation, methods of processing, and opportunities for value addition through a variety of applications. Sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) is an economically valuable crop, admired for its vibrant yellow flowers and seeds rich in high-quality oil. The oil derived from sunflower seeds is nutritionally valued for its high content of unsaturated fatty acids, such as linolenic and linoleic acids, which help to reduce cholesterol levels and prevent arterial fat clots. Moreover, it contains essential vitamins A, D, E, and K. Sunflower cultivation primarily occurs in warm regions, aligning with the plant's climatic preferences. As a short-lived plant, sunflowers demonstrate drought resilience due to their deep root system. In recent years, the use of sunflowers has significantly expanded, driving economic growth. The demand for products derived from sunflowers, including sprouts, roasted seeds, seed oil, and even sunflower-based agricultural tourism, has increased exponentially. Notably, sunflower seeds and their oil hold particular importance as they form the basis for integrated production systems, contributing to the creation of various food and non-food products. By presenting this information, we aim to provide a comprehensive guide for those interested in enhancing the utilization of sunflowers across various sectors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The management of homegarden (pekarangan) agrotourism in Banyuwangi involves stakeholders from various part. However, existing stakeholders are still not properly managed, and there are no rules that regulate the interaction and role of each stakeholder. This study aimed to map and analyze the stakeholders involved in the homegarden-based agrotourism program in the Banyuwangi Regency. Some of the methods used in this study are stakeholder identification, stakeholder classification, and the relationship between stakeholders. The results showed that the stakeholders involved consisted of three groups: local government groups (tourism offices, agricultural offices, and village governments), community groups (pokdarwis, farmer groups, and communities), and private groups (associations of tourism actors and tourism/private business actors). The stakeholders included in quadrant 1 (key players) are the tourism office, agriculture office, village tourism awareness group (Pokdarwis), and village government. Quadrant 2 (subject) consisted of farmer groups and communities located around the tourist area. Quadrant 3 (context setter) consisted of an association between tourist actors and business/private owners, and Quadrant 4 (Crowd) consisted of universities and Bappeda. The relationship between stakeholder groups involved in the development of homegarden agrotourism in Banyuwangi can be seen through operational activities in the field and official documents that regulate this relationship. Relationships between stakeholders are grouped into three groups: communication, coordination, and cooperation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
